Every year thousands of people suffer from cardiac arrest and the chances of survival are low. However, when CPR is performed quickly and correctly, the chances of survival and recovery are much higher, with fewer long-term injuries or disabilities. Every minute that CPR is delayed reduces the chance of survival by 10%. On the other hand, if CPR is given unnecessarily, it can delay other life-saving treatments.​

Healthcare professionals are trained to check for a pulse by hand when faced with a suspected cardiac arrest by feeling the neck, to decide whether CPR or another treatment is needed. However, research and paramedic experiences show that this process can be very challenging, and there is currently no easy solution.​​ Pulse Tile is a pulse sensing device that is designed to inform the rescuer if there is a pulse and indicate if CPR is needed. Pulse Tile aims to remove the barriers and challenges that healthcare professionals face, allowing for faster and more accurate treatment of cardiac arrest and better patient outcomes.
